KAREN STATE, Myanmar - Over the past three days, an army outpost meters away from Myanmar's border with Thailand has seen heavy fighting as it has been attacked by Karen National Union (KNU) forces.
The outpost was attacked on Sunday by troops from the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO), both of which are under the command of the Karen National Union (KNU).
According to a KNDO source, Myanmar's military retaliated by multiple airstrikes targeting KNU forces and allied groups active in the area, killing three and injuring 20.
Heavy shelling has been reported in the area, forcing residents to flee amid frequent explosions that shook the ground.
Another source claims that many have made their way to the Moei River, which separates Myanmar and Thailand. According to the source, Thai border officials have been alert on the other side of the river, ensuring that none of the displaced villagers cross into Thai territory.
