New Delhi [India], May 6 (ANI): Former Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar on Tuesday said that everyone knows who is behind the Pahalgam terrorist attack after the United Nations Security Council grilled Pakistan, raising some tough questions about the incident.
Speaking with ANI, MJ Akbar said, 'The way the world looks at Pakistan, this is evident again and again. Everyone knows who is behind this incident (Phalgam terror attack), who is behind this brutality. If Pakistan did not know that the world knew about it, then they surely know now after the UNSC meeting.'
MJ Akbar, lashing out at Pakistan, said that their rulers have decided to 'stay in a haze of extreme intoxication and sleep' and their eyes can't be opened.
'Pakistan's eyes were not open and they would probably not open now as well because when one countries rulers decide to stay in a haze of extreme intoxication and sleep, then the eyes of this country cannot be opened no matter how much the world wants,' he said.
MJ Akbar further accused Pakistan of giving 'shelter, space, arms, and money' to the terrorists and blamed them for attack.
'The world knows that our Prime Minister is against terrorism, and if you (Pakistan) give shelter, space, arms, money to the terrorists, then the responsibility lies with you,' MJ Akbar said.
On Sunday, the United Nations Security Council members grilled Pakistan, raising tough questions in the informal closed-door session, sources in New York told ANI.
The 15-nation Security Council held deliberations on Monday afternoon amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
There was no statement published by the UN body following the 'closed consultations' that was requested by Pakistan, a non-permanent member of the Council whose presidency for the month of May is currently held by Greece.
Sources told ANI that UN Security Council members raised tough questions for Pakistan at its informal closed door session. The members refused to accept the 'false flag' narrative planted by the Pakistani side and asked whether the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a proscribed terror organisation with deep ties to Pakistan, was likely to be involved in the terror attack.
Sources said there was broad condemnation of the terrorist attack and recognition of the need for accountability. Some members specifically brought up targeting of tourists on the basis of their religious faith.
Tension escalated between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 26 people were killed. (ANI)
